Heat from biomass: how to ensure energy security and energy independence of communities
It was a key issue of the meeting at the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, with the participation of Deputy Minister Oleksandr Butenko, People’s Deputies Oleksiy Kucherenko and Victoria Gryb, as well as participants of the heat production market from alternative fuels.

There are more than enough reasons to support and develop heat production from alternative fuels.

The strong argument in favor of biomass boilers and thermal power plants is a possibility to decentralize heat generation and the use of local fuels. This will contribute to reducing its vulnerability during terrorist attacks by russia.

There are also opportunities:
•      to ensure a stable heating period;
•      to reduce dependence on natural gas;
•      to save budget funds (by 30-60%);
•      to provide the public sector and the population with heat;
•      to use the potential of agricultural waste;
•      to stimulate economic recovery in regions;
•      to create additional jobs.

At the same time, the development of this industry some problems. To solve them, a number of developed legislative initiatives were discussed, which are aimed at creating fair and transparent conditions for producers of heat from alternative fuels at economically justified tariffs.

We agreed to create a working group and work out in detail all the proposals for Ukrainian bioenergy development.

Further steps include not only addressing issues on the legislative basis, but also cooperation with local authorities.
